Want to build customized landing pages for your online business? There are plenty of tools out there that can help you. But not every platform is created equal.
Landing page builders are great. But selling online isn’t just about creating beautiful sales pages. The most important task is building an effective sales funnel.
Why switch from Leadpages to ClickFunnels?
Leadpages is a standard landing page builder. Lots of people use it when they first start out building an online business. And it’s a really great tool. But the truth is you need more than just a landing page to build a successful sales funnel. That’s where ClickFunnels comes in.
To help you get an idea of the big differences between Leadpages and ClickFunnels, here’s a comparison of the two:
Leadpages is a landing page builder and lead generation tool. Building landing pages from scratch is a challenge. But Leadpages simplifies the process by helping you create mobile-friendly, adaptable landing pages. Leadpages also integrates with your Email Service Providers (ESPs). So it’s possible to capture leads and further nurture them through email marketing.

How to Switch from Leadpages to ClickFunnels
Leadpages and ClickFunnels are two very different tools that seem pretty similar at first look. ClickFunnels can help you build powerful sales funnels, while Leadpages just helps you build individual landing pages.
So if you want to switch to ClickFunnels and get the full benefit of its features, then you need to let the platform help you build your sales funnels.
Here’s how to switch from Leadpages to ClickFunnels:
Step 1: Set up your ClickFunnels account
Once you sign up for ClickFunnels, you can access your account profile. Here you’ll out all relevant information like your business name, address, phone number, etc. ClickFunnels will send you a free t-shirt after you finish your first funnel, so don’t skip over this stuff!
The next things to set up are your timezone and language settings. Make sure these preferences are accurate.
Another important thing to check is your affiliate settings. Anybody who signs up for a ClickFunnels account automatically becomes an affiliate. It’s a really great program too — you can get 40% commission on anybody you refer to the platform.
So on your affiliate settings page, you can choose whether or not you want the ClickFunnels affiliate badge to appear at the bottom of your pages:
Step 2: Add Integrations
ClickFunnels comes with a lot of important integrations that you’ll need to set up before building your first sales funnel. Integrations is the second option below the account details tab.
Integrating your autoresponder
The most important integration you’ll want to add first is your autoresponder. So if you use a third-party tool for email marketing, you can add that in here. ClickFunnels shows a long list of integrations that you can choose from. You will most likely find your email marketing tool there.
Choosing your payment gateway
The next important integration to set up is your payment gateway. Again ClickFunnels offers a variety of integrations to choose from here. The most popular option is Stripe. So select your integration and follow the setup instructions provided.
Setting up your SMTP
SMTP is the system Clickfunnel uses to send system emails such as transactional emails for products purchased. You can use your own third party SMTP provider or use Clickfunnel’s integrated one. Fill out the necessary information to set this up.
Step 3: Transfer your domain
The next thing you need to do is transfer your domain. Assuming you already have a domain name registered, you can easily switch it over to ClickFunnels after signing up. If not, ClickFunnels can provide you with a domain and hosting.
What you need to do at this step will depend on your situation. There’s different instructions for transferring over domains from various hosting providers. Refer to ClickFunnels’ help articles on the topic, and follow the instructions relevant to you:
Step 4: Set up outbound emails
The next thing you need to do is set it up so you can send outbound emails from ClickFunnels. Assuming you have Actionetics installed on your account, go up to the Actionetics tab and click “Email lists.”
Then click “+Add new list.”
Then you can name your new list. Add descriptive tags to differentiate the different kind of lists you plan to have, such as “Optins” or “Abandoned cart.”
Then you click “Create New List” and you’re good to go. If you already had lists before when you were using Leadpages, you can add them to ClickFunnels by clicking “Import Contacts.”
Once you set up your lists, it’s possible to create your follow-up sequences. Then move on to creating your first sales funnel with ClickFunnels.
Step 5: Build your first funnel
Now you’re ready to build your first funnel. In order to do this, you’ll need to have both your account information set up and your autoresponder set up. So be sure to follow those steps first.
Now from your dashboard click “+New Funnel”.
This will take you to the classic funnel builder where you choose the goal of your funnel:
- Collect emails
- Sell your product
Say you choose “Sell your product.” Next you need to choose your type:
If you choose a “Sales Funnel,” next you’ll be prompted to name and tag your funnel. This is much like you did when building your lists.
Next you’ll be taken through a series of funnel steps that you need to create. These are based on the kind of funnel you’re creating.
In this case we have:
- Squeeze Page
- Sales Page
- Order Form
- Order Confirmation
- Thank you Page
Start by browsing the templates available and choose one you like. They’re all powerful options that are scientifically proven to convert. Click “+Select Template” on the one you want:
Another thing you should do at this point is go to settings and make sure everything you need is connected properly. Check your funnel name, group tag, domain, and SMTP configuration to ensure all the right ones are selected:
Now, back on the Squeeze Page tab, click “Edit Page.”
Then go to Settings>Integrations. This will bring up your email integration settings:
Here you’ll select your autoresponder tool, whether it be Actionetics (ClickFunnels’ native option) or a third party tool like Aweber. If you didn’t add these integrations in your account set up, you’ll need to go back and do that before you can complete this step.
After selecting your integration, under the “Action” tab, select “Add to list.” Lastly, you’ll select which list to add them to. If you only created one list in the previous step, you’ll only have one option here.
The next important thing you need to do is add your product, since this is a sales funnel. Go to the “Order Form” tab and select an order form template, much like you did with your squeeze page. Click “Edit Page.”
Next go to the Products tab and click “Add new product.”
Now you can fill out your product details such as:
- Product name
- Billing integration (e.g. Stripe)
You can also select if it’s going to be a one-time purchase or ongoing subscription.
Go through each tab of the “Add New Product” set up and fill out any relevant information that you might need:
- Fulfillment Email (Fill out the HTML body text you want to display on your Thank you page after purchase.)
- Email Integration
- Shopping (For physical products)
- Affiliates (If you want to offer an affiliate program for your product)
Once you’re done with all of that, click “Create Product” and you’re good to go.
Adding your product and email integration to your funnel were the hard parts. All that’s left now is selecting your templates for each stage of the funnel and customizing them to your needs.
Most users start by simply replacing the template logo with their own business logo. Then they rewrite the header and body text of the page. But you can also make more advanced changes, using custom CSS, padding adjustment, color adjustment, and more.
When you’re finished customizing your templates, click on your Launch Checklist. This will show you which steps of the funnel still need templates, and other missing information you need to build a complete, functioning funnel:
If you accidentally skipped over any of the steps outlined in this post, your Launch Checklist will catch it.
Switching from Leadpages to ClickFunnels isn’t as complicated as you might think. And if you take full advantage of ClickFunnel’s features, the change will be well worth the effort. Building beautiful landing pages is important. But building a strong sales funnel matters even more.
